Permateek installation, done like a yacht refit should be.
We specialise in teak removal and the fitting of Permateek synthetic decking on high-end motor yachts, sportfish and sailing boats. Based in Miami, we work at your slip or in the yard, templating each area and laying the material plank by plank.
The process
Six stages, start to finish.
Survey
We come to the boat, measure every area, check the substrate for soft spots and old fastener holes, and agree the scope in writing before anything is lifted.
Removal
Old teak comes off plank by plank rather than being ripped, so the deck underneath stays intact. Plugs, screws and bedding compound all come with it.
Substrate prep
Adhesive residue is scraped back, fastener holes are filled and the surface is faired flat. Any core moisture we find is reported before we go further.
Templating
Every area is templated — margins, king planks, hatch cut-outs and pedestal bases — so seams land where they should and nothing telegraphs through.
Fabrication
Panels are built from your chosen plank colour and caulk line, with mitred corners and curved margins cut to follow the sheer of the hull.
Bonding & caulking
Panels are bonded and the seams are caulked. No screws through the deck means no future leak paths at fastener holes.
Quality
Why Permateek works on boats.
Permateek is a synthetic teak material engineered specifically for marine use. It is UV-stable, non-slip and cooler underfoot than traditional teak. Because the panels are bonded rather than screwed, there are no fastener holes to leak, and the deck keeps its colour without sanding, oiling or annual maintenance.
Tecamar is not a general contractor. We only do teak removal and Permateek fitting, which means every crew member knows how margin details, radii and hatch cut-outs should finish.
